Connect with your Grandkids

Cheri is on a tight writing deadline so I'm updating her blog for her. I'll also take this opportunity to brag on her Connecting with your Grandkids book too. If you haven't read it, you must.
One of her quotes I love: "The best thing to spend on your grandchildren is time."
One of her ideas that I love:
"Grandma's Magic Bag" - Buy a one of a kind grandma magic bag. Cheri found hers in a night market in Chiang Mai. You might find yours in a discount store or a flea market. Fill it with items that will delight your grandchildren.

Examples:
  1. a small, bright-colored high bouncing ball
  2. an engaging mini-book you can read them
  3. a tiny pack of crayons and notebook
  4. funny socks
  5. a magnifying glass(take it to the park and look at what is hiding in the grass
  6. a musical toothbrush to use when a grandchild is visiting your house
  7. small sticker book
  8. inexpensive novelty bracelet
  9. small goodies
  10. a mini travel game
I was with Cheri in a Dollar Store as she enthusiastically shopped for items for her bag. She has a knack for finding inexpensive treasures. Her insight into gifts was contagious and I started to buy things as well. Cheri suggests that you take this bag with you when you go someplace with your grandkids. When they get restless or cranky quietly say, "Wow...guess it must be time for something....from Granny's Magic Bag!"

Cheri has so many great ideas. They've inspired me to think more purposefully of what I might do. This past weekend I noticed several garage sales in our area. I called and asked my daughter-in-love if the kids would like to garage sale. I also told them I'd supply the dollars. I heard an excited 'yes' in the background from the kids as she asked them. I picked them up, gave them each a couple of dollars, and off we went. They each found something they were delighted with and I enjoyed every minute as well.
Thank you, Cheri, for writing such an insightful book and ladies, please take time to share your tips for connecting with your precious grandkids.

Blessings to you,
Mimi Pam

Resurrection Rolls

I am posting this for Cheri.  It is an Easter morning tradition that my sweet daughter-in-law has established with my grandsons.   They'll be at my house for Easter this year so I'm getting the ingredients together to celebrate His resurrection with them.  What a great illustration for them to see.

Blessing to you,
Mimi Pam

Resurrection Rolls

Preheat over to 350

Ingredients: Crescent rolls, melted butter, large marshmallows, cinnamon, and sugar.

  1. Give each child a triangle of crescent rolls - represents the cloth Jesus was wrapped in.
  2. Let each child dip a marshmallow in melted butter - represents oil of embalming.
  3. Dip the marshmallow in cinnamon and sugar mixed together - represents the spices used to anoint the His body.
  4. Bring three sides of the crescent roll together and seal the marshmallows inside.
  5. Place in oven for 10-12 minutes - represents the tomb.
  6. Let cool.  When children open the rolls, it is empty - just as the grave was because HE IS RISEN!

When I was interviewing and writing Connect With Your Grandkids, I met
--via e-mail, phone, and in person--some of the most creative, loving grandmas in America. And since the book just came out in bookstores this week--Hooray!--I've had a number of these terrific women say they'd like to stay in touch.

I call this blog spot "Nandy's House" because that's what my grandkids call me and created this blogspot as a place we can connect with each other and exchange ideas on new and favorite ways to connect with our grandkids. Whether they are little or big, 10 miles or 10,000 miles away--we love 'em!

Since Easter's coming up, let's share our favorite Easter activities, traditions, recipes, and special memories with your grandkids. In the next blog I'm going to share about our egg decorating evening that all the grandkids love. You can post in the "comments" below or e-mail me at cheri@cherifuller.com and I'll include them in a future blog.

Nighttime Easter Egg Hunt

For some real fun at Easter time, get a bag of plastic "Glow-in-the-dark" Easter eggs (available at most Target or Walmart stores). When the sun is going down the night before Easter (or a few nights before), hide the eggs. Give your grandkids a basket or bucket and when it's dark, everyone go outside and watch the children find the eggs. Give each one a small flashlight to help the hunting and a little prize (like a chocolate egg) for each child.
